This week, Eastside will host the 2nd annual Panther showcase. Students from four middle schools -- Martin, Murchison, Kealing and O Henry, will tour the gym on Monday and Tuesday. They will see displays from all the elective courses and see booths from the after school groups and sports teams.
Last year's show was a success, and helped recruit a big freshman class. They number roughly 200, where the sophomore class is roughly 150.
At 30 minutes after 1st period starts today and 30 minutes after 6th starts on Tuesday, you are to come to the gym with pads and audio recorders and do the following:
1. Interview one of the assistant principles and ask them about organization.
2. Interview one of the teachers or coaches or managers running a booth.
3. Interview one of the students visiting, and find out how they feel about the showcase, and what interests them.
Your group will spend 30 minutes interviewing people. When you return to class, you are to write a 2-3 paragraph hard news story on the showcase, with an inverted pyramid opening.
Every student is responsible for interviewing these three people. If you cannot use a recorder, do it on paper. Your interview notes will be turned in to the substitute at the end of the period. Your story should be e-mailed (do it in Word) to: [email protected]
The interview notes and the story each count for a grade. Do not waste time.
