Hello to period 1 and to period 6 of Mr. Vela's Eastside High journalism classes. Take a minute to look around the page. Spare, isn't it? That won't last long.
This will be the home for your daily sponge activies and your journal assignments. When you enter class, look up on the board or the projector screen for the day's directions. You will often be directed to this page and asked to make a comment, either in the post comment thread, or on your own personal sites, depending on the size of the project.
Blogging will be an essential part of your journalism journey at Eastside this year. All professional jounalists are now accessable online, either through their own columns or through their own sites. Part of this class will ask you to find some journalists and columnists you like and to read them on a regular basis.
Each of your has your own personal page, which you will build up as the year progresses. You will start slowly, practicing your basic writing skills. As you become more confident, you will start writing in a variety of journalistic styles. Later, we will expand your role even farther, allowing you to build stories abound photos you will take and also around videos you create. By the end of the year, you should have basic mastery of how to me a modern, multi-media, web-based journalist.
Welcome again. This is going to be fun!
