Your project for the next couple of weeks will be to create a magazine cover with you as the subject.
Your initial task:
1. Pick a magazine that you like
2. Look at its style. Does it have a common layout, like the Rolling Stone examples I showed you?
Does it have a white background? A black one? Other colors?
3. Pick a color you want for yours, be it white, grey, blue, red or black.
4. See if you can find the logo and import a LARGE copy of it onto your desktop for the layering.
Step two is finding the logo for your project. Take the logo for it, be it "Rolling Stone" "Vogue" "Vibe" or whatever, and find it in google images.
Step three will be choosing a background for your image.
Step four will be creating a portrait of yourself to use on the cover. One of your classmates will shoot it. so you need to give them specific instructions so they create a photo that is flattering and exactly what you want.
What type of lighting do you want on your portrait? Choose one of the following:
a. split lighting -- lighting where the subject's face is split, half in light, half in shadow.
b. full lighting -- lighting where one side of the subject's face is fully lit, but the opposite eye and side of the face are in shadow.
c. short lighting -- the opposite of full lighting, the "short" side of the face only is lit.
d. high Rembrandt lighting -- lighting that mimics lighting from Renaissance paintings. One side of the face is lit, while the opposite eye and a triangle on the opposite cheek, just under the eye are lit. The shadow on the darker side of the face goes from the edge of the nose to the corner of the mouth.
e. butterfly lighting -- lighting where there is a single light place high and directly in front of the subject's face. A small shadow is produced just under the subject's nose.
