You can always undo moves like this, but they change your original photo.
Today, we're going to look at a function that lets you work with images and text but leaves each part of your object intact. We're going to work with layers.
Think of layers as sheets of transparent plastic. You can use each layer for each part of your photo and then lay them on top of one another. So your background could be put in a single layer. The photo of you could be put in a second layer that sits on top of that. You could create another layer that has text on top of that.
You could then work within each layer and not affect the others. If you didn't like what happened in a layer, you could delete it and create a new layer to replace it.
Your assignment today: You will create a postcard of a "perfect vacation." It will contain three layers. One will be your destination. It could be a beach in Hawaii, Paris, Las Vegas, the surface of the moon, any place you think would be a fun place to visit.
1. Find that place in google images. Be sure to find a large file for it (at least 1000 x 1000 pixels).
2. Copy that image onto your clipboard.
3. Open Photoshop and create a new project; paste your photo into the white frame once Photoshop creates it.
Now, for the new steps.
4. Take a selfie of yourself. I have cameras on the table. take one of yourself and import the shot into your computer.
5. Copy the photo into your clipboard.
6. DO NOT CREATE a new project for your selfie. Instead, go to the menu bar, click on "layer" and from the drop-down menu, pick "new>layer." You will see the new layer appear in your layer box on the right side of the screen.
7. Paste your selfie into the new layer. Use the quick selection tool to select yourself and cut it from the background.
8. Create a third layer.
9. Paste your selected self into the third layer.
10. In the layer menu, select the original selfie layer. It will be highlighted blue.
11. Hit delete and delete that layer. Now, you have a layer with only your body over the background layer. Use the move tool to position yourself where you want to be.
12. Create a new layer
13 using the text tool, write a headline for your postcard.
14. When you are done, save it as a jpeg file and send it to me.
