Today, you'll do a simple exercise with negative space by Mammoth Interactive, a graphic design house in Canada.
First, google mammoth interactive. Then take the first image on the images page, in the upper left-hand corner:
Keep that logo on your clipboard.
Then, follow the instructions on this YouTube tutorial and build a cut-out logo with a background with the color of your own choosing.

Some tricks from the tutorial:
1. When you are in the color tool, hold down shift and hit the G key. your cursor will turn into a paint bucket, which will color your entire layer.
2. To transform a large image, go through EDIT>TRANSFORM>SCALE and this will let you expand or contract in image and keep its scale.
3. When you want to highlight the outline of an image, put your cursor over the thumbnail icon in the layer box, then hit the CONTROL key.
