How does graphic design affect you? How much does it seep into your minute-to-minute, day-to-day life without you recognizing it?
Try this experiment: Open a new Powerpoint presentation. Title it "My Life in Design" and date it August 28th
Part I
Then, on the title slide, create a slide that is title and a text box. In it, take me through a typical day or week. List all the logos and forms of graphic design you encounter. Consider:
Morning
1. Do you eat a breakfast cereal that has a design?
2. Do you have clothes which are labeled? Which carry a specific design?
3. What about your shoes? Do you buy and wear a certain line or brand of shoes?
4. What other accessories? Do you have a particular hat, bag or watch which is "your mark?"
What about Food?
5. Do you eat at certain restaurants? Have a favorite pizza, or hamburger? What logos does this, do these companies have?
Your Sports
6. Do you follow a certain college team? What's their logo? What about pro teams? Who do you follow? What are their marks? Do you own clothes or accessories with these marks?
Your Taste
7. What music do you follow? Does this/these acts have their own look, logo(s) in addtion to their sound?
Your Environment
8. Do you have a certain type of electronics you use?
9. A certain type of car you like, or want to drive?
10. Is your house designed, created a certain way?
11. Do you have a certain type of phone. Do you love iPhone and Apple products? Do you avoid iPhone and Apple Products?
When you have profiled your day or your week, or your life, copy it and send the file to me. It should be at least two to three pages.
Part II
Create a slide show which profiles you as the sum of all the graphic art, logos and designs. You are "mapping" yourself, according to the graphic art you consume and display. Use all the logos/graphic art which you profiled in part 1.
